Thanks to Berlin, the “Bread and Butter” and welcome to Berlin: “Bright“.

One label really grasped our attention and we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to present you the most interesting newcomer – from our point of view. A great example of how to do it right.

But trust us, that´s how it works. Here is a great measurement rule, we learned about in one of our meetings:

The time you spend on the idea equals 1 …

Or in plain words:

Production is the bitch heavy part.

After a lot of time behind the screens doing lots of online research, spending hours on the phone and writing many many emails, it was finally time to hit the road. It was time to meet our supporters and contacts in person and to sit down together to discuss our chances and the most promising construction concepts and of course to present the prototype. That´s always the best part for Stefan and me. To see the reaction in the peoples faces when we build/blow up our tent is by far the greatest motivation for us. That is the thing that keeps us going.

Some of the meetings turned out to be dead end streets some where the first step to a solution but all of them were a great lesson. We learned either more about our product, the right materials or the structures of production.

The whole trip was probably one of the turning points for our projects. In the end we made some promising progress. We will now start with the first tests for the production.

We don´t know where it will lead us to but we are looking forward to the next weeks and the next steps for the development of our first product.

Das Konzept des Heimplanet Corporate Designs basiert auf der Konstruktion der Heimplanet Wort-Bildmarke.

Beispielhaft spiegelt sich der Grundgedanke des Corporate Designs in den Visitenkarten wieder:

Das farbige Muster auf der Vorderseite ergibt durch die Überschneidung der jeweiligen Kreise und Linien die Heimplanet-Bildmarke . Die Rückseite mit den Kontaktinformationen ist in einem schlichtem Schwarz/Weiß gehalten, wodurch im Zusammenspiel mit der farbigen Rückseite ein starker Kontrast entsteht. Diese Gestaltungselemente bilden die Basis und den hohen Wiedererkennungswert des visuellen Auftretens der Marke.
Jede weitere Visitenkarte enthält ein weiteren Ausschnitt des kachelbaren Musters der Vorderseite, wodurch gleichzeitig Zusammengehörigkeit und Individualität entstehen.Das dazugehörige Designmanual definiert die Anwendung von Logoschutzraum, Farbigkeit, Typographie und dem Muster.

Neben den klassischen Corporate Elementen wurde Promotionmaterial in Form von Stickern produziert, um die Marke auf Messen und der Straße zu verbreiten.

Ziel war es eine Wort-Bildmarke zu gestalten, die klassisch wirkt und zugleich den modernen Heimplanet-Lifestyle widerspiegelt.
Die Heimplanet Bildmarke soll einprägsam und plakativ sein, damit diese in verschiedenen Größen und vielseitigen Einsatzweisen funktioniert.
Um ein harmonisches Zusammenspiel der Wort- und Bildmarke zu erreichen, ist die Typografie von den geometrischen Formen des Icons inspiriert. Wort- und Bildmarke können so auch unabhängig voneinander angewandt werden.

In phase 3 we started to define the tent’s final design and construction.

Our main issue for the following workflow was to find an optimal solution to combine technical needs as well as aestetical requirements as further step in the design process of the Heimplanet tent.

Due to diverse variations of design we tried to figure out, which composition between size, technical circumstances, structure and design might be the best solution to reach a high aeshtetical and funtional output.

A various number of different air- passage structures arised during our workflow.

One of the main shaping elements in the design process was the consideration of air allocation inside the blow-up bearing structure.

A main issue was to develop a design for bearing structure, which requires as little air volume as possible for maximum stability. Furthermore it was important to find a smart possibility to insert and dispose air easily.

After the descision was made concerning the final design of the bearing structure, we started to concentrate more on the details. Our main focus was to design a well functioning and easy to handle aeration system.

An entrace in a geodesic dome is a difficult topic concerning convenience without modifying the geometrical structure and overall appearance.

We were looking for a design that did not modify the geodesic structure but has an awning.

We put he awning into the tent and called it apsis.

Based on our blueprints Comprisetec started to build the first functional model. They produced a variety of patterns concerning the hexagon and pentagon elements of the bearing structure.

We were looking for something different, something new. And what we found is a concept that – in its fundamentals – was developed a long time ago but is up to date as ever. But more important then that, it is different and because of this very inspiring for our whole project.

“geodesic domes“

A geodesic dome is a domed or vaulted structure of straight elements that form interlocking polygons.

(…) The first dome that could be called “geodesic” in every respect was designed just after World War I by Walther Bauersfeld,^[1] chief engineer of the Carl Zeiss optical company, for a planetarium to house his new planetarium projector. The dome was patented, constructed by the firm of Dykerhoff and Wydmann on the roof of the Zeiss plant in Jena, Germany, and opened to the public in July 1926.^[2] Some 30 years later, R. Buckminster Fuller named the dome “geodesic” from field experiments in 1948 and 1949. Fuller worked in developing what he termed “tensegrity,” an engineering principle of continuous tension and discontinuous compression that allowed domes to deploy a lightweight lattice of interlocking icosahedrons that could be skinned with a protective cover. Even though Buckminster Fuller (Bucky) was not the inventor of the geodesic dome concept, he was the one who formed a whole philosophy around it and shaped the understanding, people have about it today.

The geodesic dome appealed to Fuller because it was extremely strong for its weight, its “omnitriangulated” surface provided an inherently stable structure, and because a sphere encloses the greatest volume for the least surface area.(…)

His personality and his thoughts inspired not just our tent concept, but also our whole approach. He was definitely a person with a vision and his own thinking.

Yesterday was a great day for inspiration. I stumbled upon some things and realized that they all have one thing in common, they tell you to “Do Your Own Thing (and share it)”! And that is exactly what I am doing and want to do even more.

What is meant by “Do Your Own Thing”? It’s easy, it means: get up, take some time and do what you like. Do anything, but it’s important to do something creative what your heart beats for. Do something you always wanted to do. Take photos, write a short story, knit yourself some pair of gloves, craft your own chair…and then share it. By this way people will recognize you and who knows what will happen next. (…)

Viel Erfolg für Eure Projekt. Go out and do something, denn – Bunt ist das Dasein und granatenstark.
