The design process for heimplanet – Phase 01.

The design team for heimplanet,  thank you for your support and your great input:

Chris: Attending a tent is like a potluck dinner.

Ines: Attending a tent is an independent journey with unknown occasions along the way.

Robert: Attending a tent by joining the expedition.

The process:

In the beginning we started a research concerning any kind of structures stabilized by fillings of all kinds. Our interest was focused on man made artefacts and natural appearances. During our work we developed a few conceptboards which were made of images showing tendencies of research in inflatable structures, such as grown geometrical structures modified by environmental influences.

We were inspired by topics such as microbiological systems, diatoms, leave veins, blood vessels, as well as urban architecture, platonic bodies and inflated products.

After a first review of the research we started to sketch. To get in touch with the meaning of camping and owning a tent, we used our drawings to analyse those questions. A variety of design tendencies arose in a bunch of drawings.

To organise the tangled mass our next step was to set up the following design topics:

Those themes depict a way of construction, design and behaviour. Every topic is devided into three to four subitems. Each segment has a different focus on useability, appearance and design.

Concluding the design step we presented our work in the organised structure shown above. Together, we selected a number of designs which we will define in the phase 02.
